This diverse group includes birds found primarily on or near the water including ducks, geese, swans, grebes, loons, mergansers and their kin. All are adept swimmers and many like the loons and mergansers are excellent divers that feed primarily on fish. Loons can dive over 250 ft. deep (76 m) in search of fish.
