Turtles
Turtles are easily distinguished by their large bony carapaces (shells), which serve to protect them from most predators. Like all reptiles, turtles breathe air through lungs; they are also able to breathe underwater from gill-like respiratory surfaces on the mouth and anus. Turtles are most active in spring during mating season. Most are omnivores and eat a wide variety of plant and animal matter.
